Marthinus van Schalkwyk, Tourism Minister, South Africa, said that the country received 10% more visitors in the initial five months of 2007 compared to the same period in 2006. The report also said that the government is very positive regarding the 2010 FIFA World Cup as the mega event will bring in financial benefits and improve South Africa"s global profile. So the government is emphasizing on infrastructure improvement of the country and to develop the infrastructure of various departments, specifically transport, the government is spending huge sum of money - five to six times more than the planned amount. The South African government also thinks that the event will help in changing the opinion of people from foreign lands on Africa and South Africa.
