Water, Water, Everywhere, But How Much Should We Drink?

Water is widely heralded for its numerous health benefits, but exactly how much should we be drinking? Specialist supplier of mains connected water coolers, Pressure Coolers, offers advice about how to ensure we stay hydrated and healthy.

As a founder member of the European Point-of-Use Drinking Water Association (EPDWA), Pressure Coolers is well aware of the positive effects that water has on the body. Matthew Mitchison, director of Pressure Coolers, says, "It"s essential that consumers know the risks associated with dehydration. The body can survive for weeks without food, but it only takes a few days, or even hours, for the body to shut down without sufficient water, highlighting the importance of ensuring a regular intake of fresh drinking water."

Advice from the British Dietetic Association stipulates that the average adult living in a temperate climate should consume between 1.5 and 2.5 litres of water a day. Those living in warmer climes and physically active people will need to drink much higher quantities. Some of this intake can be through food, especially fruits and vegetables with high water content, but the majority should come directly from beverages. Whilst juices, carbonated drinks, tea and coffee all provide some degree of rehydration, there simply is no more effective way of replacing lost fluids than drinking water.

Signs that point directly to dehydration include headaches, dull skin, loss of concentration, tiredness and lethargy. Indeed, a 4-5% reduction in body water will result in a 20-30% decline in work performance. After guzzling just a few glasses of water, the body repairs itself quickly, resulting in boosted energy levels and a feeling of vitality.

Water has also been proved to improve health and immunity to illnesses, and is essential for the growth and maintenance of the body. Drinking between 1.5 and 2.5 litres a day has also been cited as a great way to assist weight loss and to get clearer skin.

With so many benefits of drinking water, it"s no surprise that so many people are choosing to install water coolers in their homes and offices. The increased productivity makes it an obvious choice to encourage workers to drink more in the office, whilst clean fresh-tasting water in the home makes is easier for the whole family to drink their daily quota.

Quick and convenient, mains connected water coolers are easy to install and provide hot, room temperature and chilled water. A more palatable alternative to tap water, and without the hassle of refilling with heavy plastic water bottles, a mains connected water cooler is a great way to ensure the recommended intake of the most vital component of our diet.
